Winter Wishlist 2012

Even though we are probably not quite done with fall yet, I feel like the freezing cold evening temps are a sign of things quickly to come! We've already started using our fireplace and it's all I can do to hold off on the Christmas decorations. (I think that after Thanksgiving is a TAD more reasonable.) In the meantime, I have put together a "Winter Wish List," that is a little glam (luxurious Diptyque candles!)  and a little geek (Kigu-freaking-rumi!) with a dash of practicality thrown in for good measure (Sorel boots for Virginia rain and snow).

Winter Wishlist 2012

Eleven

So, for the past few months, those of you that know me know that I have been voraciously devouring the entirety of Doctor Who. I'll be the first to admit that I'm a "NuWho-vian" so the "entirety of Doctor Who" for me starts with the Ninth Doctor, played by the dark and sometimes brooding Christopher Eccleston. When I finished the first (and Eccleston's only) season, I said to myself "This is it!...No one will be able to outdo the Ninth Doctor...He will always be my favorite." Then David Tennant came on the scene with his sightly sillier Doctor, dapper pinstriped suit, and awesome hair. It took me a few episodes, but I ended up loving him with Rose Tyler and it was "ALLONS-Y" for all of seasons two through four. The episodes telling the story of the end of the tenth Doctor's adventures were some of the most well written, well acted moments of television I have ever seen. (I definitely "had something in both of my eyes" during the season five finale.) And of course, when it was all said and done, Ten was my new favorite and there was no WAY the new Doctor would ever change that, especially without Rose, or Martha, or the Doctor Donna.

But sure enough, I gave it a few episodes and Matt Smith and "Eleven" won me over. I'd like to think its the talent of the show's writers that manages to keep me coming back, even when my precious Doctor regenerates.I love the Ponds, I love the new TARDIS and I love River Song because let's face it...River Song is cool.In honor of the new season of Doctor Who, I have put together an Eleven inspired outfit that I think would be perfect for the upcoming fall weather. I say inspired, because I decided to stick with tailored women's clothing and a sweet red statement necklace instead of a bowtie. 

We're already two episodes into Season 7 and all I have to say is...GERONIMO!!!!!

Fall Favorites

With my mind on the upcoming chilly fall evenings (see: Home Sweet...Hogwarts) I couldn't help but think of all of the things on my wish-list for the upcoming autumn season. (Although here in VA, the weather has been flip flopping lately! One morning humid and 80, the next breezy and 50. I always bring a light jacket and scarf with me just in case.)

Fabulous Rain Boots- I have been lusting after a pair of glossy black Hunter rain boots for a while now. I'm just stalking a few websites to see if they go on sale. You can also find them here, here, and here.

Rich Plum Coat- I'm not going to lie...I saw this plum coat on Pinterest and was smitten. From Victoria's Secret.

Baked Pumpkin Donuts- Another Pinterest find. I am going to try the recipe this week (with pictures of course!) I would pair these with warm apple cider or some hot tea.

Woodchuck Hard Cider (Fall Edition- Limited Release)- Speaking of apple cider...The Belly Dancing Gamer ordered this the other night at dinner and offered me a taste. 2 words: APPLE PIE.

Vintage Dooney and Bourke Leather Bag- I'm not quite sure what peaked my interest, but I have been on a vintage D&B kick lately. I am tracking a few eBay auctions with the hope that I will find one in great condition.

Dramatic Winged Liner- Lately I have been loving a dramatic black winged liner. I am still working on perfecting the art, but if you want to see a real master, check out the lovely Keiko Lynn (pictured above) and her winged liner tutorial.

Nouveaux Nerd

Back in the day, I had more than my fair share of "nerd" attire. From anime t-shirts to my Dana Scully FBI badge, I wore it loud and wore it proud. And i'm not gonna lie: I can't bear to give up my 3 sizes too big X-Files t-shirt (which i still sleep in.)

Nowadays though, it seems as if some retailers/designers are getting a bit more subtle with their "Geek Chic."

1. Bella's Jacket, from the Twilight series. By B.B. Dakota and available (here) and (here) in multiple colors. I actually own this jacket in olive (a Christmas gift from a friend).I have to say, it is warm, cute, and functional what with the multitude of pockets.

2. "My Other Ride is a LightCycle" (t-shirt and hoodie) by Rolf Nelson, available (here) at Threadless. (Where, incidentally, you can find lots of other cool tees.) Tron fans rejoice! With upcoming release of the remake, this design will definitely sate the old and new-school nerd alike. (The best part: it glows in the dark!)

3. Lord of the Rings: The One Ring, available (here) on a chain in gold plate, silver and 14k gold.
I would wear this on a chain, layered with other necklaces, and definitely with the elvish script.

4. House Slytherin Thin Striped Tie, available (here.) One for the gents. A little preppy to the undiscerning eye, but those of us of the House of Guilty Pleasure know which bleach-blonde brit you're trying to channel.
