Seattle Day 2 - Hiking at Twin Falls Park

After spending a day in the city, it was time to head out into the wilderness. The drive to Twin Falls was everything my day-dreaming heart could have every wanted. Grey skies, mist on the mountains, lush greenery, and the dwarven song from The Hobbit on repeat (much to the other passengers chagrin I'm sure) (Love this version).

The landscape was so otherworldly, I found myself lost in thought more than once. I can definitely see why so many Sci Fi/Fantasy shows are filmed here. I took way too many photos this trip, so I thought I would share with you a small selection.

BONUS ROUND (or: Sorry, not sorry)

Yes. A pit stop at Top Pot doughnuts on the way back into town. It was everything I hoped it would be and MORE. Sometimes you have to live a little.

Seattle Day 1 - Pike Place Market, Space Needle, and the EMP Museum

Back in May, Chris and I went on a week long trip to the Pacific-Northwest with two of our great friends, Matt and and Mel. We flew into Seattle and spent a few days touring the city and hiking the misty mountains before driving across the border to Vancouver, Canada.

These next few blogs will be photo highlights of the best bits of our trip. Prepare yourself for lots of green and grey! First up- Seattle, WA.

PIKE PLACE MARKET

The institution. We were even provided with the most stereotypical Seattle weather you could ever want.

Chris and I and an eternal grey sky/mist.

The seafood was so fresh! Both Chris and I tried the shrimp and it was delicious.

The colors in this place were so vibrant! It was hard to know where to rest your eyes, between all of the colorful fruit, veg, and flowers.

The O.G. Starbucks. I poked my head inside, but it was WAY too crowded to get a drink.

SPACE NEEDLE

After Pike Place, we walked to the Space Needle. It was SUPER windy, but the views were worth it.

Another Seattle skyline.

EMP MUSEUM

We didn't know what to expect at the EMP Museum. We lucked out though, because on display at the time (and apparently it's still there for anyone headed to Seattle) was the "Fantasy: Worlds of Myth and Legend" and "Icons of Science Fiction"exhibits! (Read more about the exhibits here and here.) There were lots of cool weapons, costumes, and props from some of my favorite movies and TV shows.

The rest of the museum is a tribute to different rock icons.
 Here there be dragons.

The trouble with tribbles.

EX-TER-MINATE

You remind me of the babe...

Westeros has a new leader. It is known...

Wandering the city was SO fun, and it was definitely interesting to feel the difference in attitude and atmosphere between DC and Seattle. Seattle was a lot more laid back and less frenetic and rushed. I could totally see myself living there.

Next up: Seattle Day 2 - Hiking at Twin Falls Park (or: SO MUCH GREEN or: JURASSIC PARK) Stay tuned!

Survey Says...Fitness

1. What did you eat for breakfast?
I was running late, so I bought an egg and sausage sandwich from the coffee shop near where I work and ate it without the bread. Also, coffee (does that even need to be said?).

2. How much water do you drink a day?
I'm not really sure, but at least 40 oz. I've been making more of an effort to drink water lately since I drink so much coffee.

3. What is your current favorite workout?
Weight lifting and going out and about with my dog.

4. How many calories do you eat a day?
I don't really count calories. If I feel like I am am getting off track with my eating habits, then I will hop on the MyFitnessPal app. and count for a few days, just so I have a better idea of what I am consuming.

5. What are your favorite healthy snacks?
Rice cakes and peanut butter, apples and peanut butter, green smoothies or juices. Also, peanut butter.

6. What do you usually eat for lunch?
90% of the time it is leftovers from dinner the night before. The other 10% is probably a salad or sandwich.

7. What is your favorite body part to strength train?
Legs, because it's the part of my body that needs the most work.

8. What is your least favorite body part to strength train?
Abs

9. What are your “bad” food cravings?
I don't really believe that food is “good” or “bad.” Food can be nutritious, or lacking nutrition, really. Speaking of foods that are not very nutritious, I usually crave french fries and froyo.

10. Do you take vitamins or supplements?
No, but I really should!

11. How often do you eat out?
Hmm, I would say in general, Chris (my Husband) and I usually eat out on Fridays and Saturdays. Thank God Chris loves to cook, so we usually have awesome breakfasts before work in the morning, and even more amazing dinners.

12. Do you eat fast food?
It all depends on what you would consider fast food. I don't eat at McDonalds and the like, but I will eat at Chipotle, Panera, and Starbucks.

13. Who is your biggest supporter?
Chris! He is always encouraging to be my best, and is there to pick me up when I am down. Case in point- I really want to go back to fencing and keep talking about it- Chris keeps reminding me about it so hopefully I start back in the next week or so.

14. Do you have a gym membership?
Yes, I belong to Gold's Gym. We got lucky and a brand new one opened up less than five minutes from our house.

15. How many hours of sleep do you get a night?
Ugh, never enough! I am well aware that getting enough sleep is part of a healthy lifestyle. However, I am a night owl which causes me to say up way past my bed time. Then it is impossible to get up in the morning. The struggle is real.

16. Do you have a “cheat” day?
Not really. I usually eat well during the week, and then let myself have a bit more leeway on the weekend.

17. Do you drink alcohol?
Yes! (gasp!) I don't drink all that often, but I do love me some beer, wine, and dark rum.

18. Do you have a workout buddy?
I have two. Chris and my dog Ripley.

19. What is the best thing that has changed about your life since committing to a healthy lifestyle?
Of course the physical improvements cannot be denied. Less sluggish, better skin, less bloating. But the empowerment from becoming physically stronger is equally as uplifting.
In addition to all of that, I think that the passion for other helping other people on their paths to becoming healthier has greatly impacted the course of my life. So much so that I am back in school pursuing a degree in Nutrition and eventually hope to become a Health and Wellness coach.
(Not to mention a little company called Geeked Out Fitness).

20. What was the last healthy thing you did?
Took my dog Ripley on a long walk in our neighborhood. <3 p="">

Jeans and a T-Shirt- Leveled Up with Brilliant Earth

So, last week I was contacted by an ethical jeweler from California called "Brilliant Earth." Brilliant  Earth specializes in ethically sourced diamonds, which is definitely something I can get behind. Their specialty is engagement rings but they have a wide range of fine jewelry including earrings and pendants. (In particular, this TARDIS blue sapphire ring is stunning!)

They asked if I would be interested in participating in their "Personality Style Challenge" by creating a mood/inspiration board with a selection of diamond jewelry from their collection. If you follow D & D you know that I love creating these inspiration boards, so I definitely jumped at the opportunity.
